An international guarantee is defined as a surety or bond issued in favor of a foreign beneficiary (public or private) located outside the national territory. It primarily applies to market guarantees to ensure the completion and performance of projects.

These guarantees include Bid Bonds (submission), Performance Bonds (completion), Advance Payment Bonds (refund of advance), or simply payment guarantees to secure any contractual payment obligation. Depending on the location of the beneficiary, a reissuance by a local guarantor is often required.
